Tackle Grab Review & Upcoming Giveaway

I was very excited to get a Tackle Grab box to review – perfect timing for Father’s Day.  I’m sure a lot on mom, wives, girlfriends etc. have men in their lives who love to fish.  Sometimes we just don’t know what to give the men in our lives for Father’s Day, birthdays or just because.  Read this review.  Maybe Tackle Grab is just the gift you were looking for.

Ok now on to the box 🙂  For now I am going to list the items, Retail price and where to find them.  My dad is going to be my guinea pig and I will update my blog as he tries each items and provides feedback.

The box isn’t the most fancy one out there was my 1st reaction.  But, then, I had to take a step back and think about the audience for this box – MEN!  They need a manly box so this box meets their expectations.  I had to stop thinking like a woman for a little while 😉

So, at first glance, I am VERY impressed with this box.  Just the products in the box are worth well over the price of the subscription.  In addition their rewards program is fantastic.  They’ll be launching their store soon but you do start earning reward points right away.  They’ll be loaded into your account until they open the store.

I can’t wait to get my dads feedback.  As much as he loves fishing he’ll be like a kid on Christmas morning with this box!

The total Retail Value of the bait items is $35.77.  In addition the minimum you earn each month in Tackle Grab rewards is $7.50 (If you sign up month to month you get 75 points each month which equals $7.50 in TG bucks to spend in their store).  If  you sign up for longer subscriptions, refer friends, review products etc. you can earn even more TG money to spend (see above for the explanation of their rewards program).

MistoBox May 2013 (“Awesome” size box)

 

Hi folks,

I had the pleasure to receive a complementary box from MistoBox.  MistoBox is a monthly coffee subscription service.  They taste and evaluate more than 50 coffees every month from different artisan roasters across the country. They then hand select 4 of the most delicious and unique single origin coffees to send you. You’ll never get the same coffee twice, so every box will bring new, interesting flavor profiles.  They have 2 monthly options, their “Awesome” box which sends (4) 1.7 ounce bags of coffee beans and their “More Awesome” box which sends (4) 3.4 ounce bags of coffee beans.  Monthly costs are $15 and $30 respectively.  Right now, you can get your 1st “Awesome” box for only $5 and your 1st “More Awesome” box for only $10.  You can also choose to receive either 1 or 2 boxes/month.  For the purpose of this review I received their “Awesome” size.

Because of my propensity to suffer from insomnia I don’t drink caffeinated coffee late in the afternoon, which is when I received this box.  Because of this, I will show and describe all of the box contents then revise this post as me and my hubby try each of the selections.  In this case, my hubby will be my guinea pig.  I will provide both my opinion and his :).

Even though I did receive this free trial box from MistoBox, my opinions are not influenced by the free products and I would never recommend anything to anyone that I would not, myself, use or that I felt was not worth spending your money on.

Ok, let’s get to the box I received:

I’ll admit it I am a sucker for cute boxes and subscription boxes get extra points, with me, for presentation.  I must say MistoBox did not disappoint in this area.  They have a wonderfully presented product!

The card, inside each box, has information about the 4 different coffees received.  I love that the cards tell you, not only about the coffee but also, the name of the roaster.  I will enjoy looking up more info. about each US based roaster.  We have a local roaster the next town over who roasts organic, free trade beans and I am going to suggest they reach out to MistoBox about being featured in their boxes 🙂  Maybe it’s the nerd in me but I like the little tidbits of information on each bag.  I especially like that they list the roasting date – it’s fresh coffee!  Freshness does, absolutely, make for the best cup of coffee.  Lastly, I like the tasting notes.  They remind me of the tasting/aroma notes used to describe fine wines.  As we try each coffee I’ll add our tasting notes.  It will be interesting to see if they match those on the bags.

On the back of the card it says:

Ok, off for now.  We’ll start trying the coffee tomorrow and I’ll begin adding our honest opinions. Like I said above, we have a local coffee roaster the next town over so, I’m very interested in seeing how these compare to our local coffee roaster.

MommiesFirst May 2013 – 1 more item (9-Month old girl)

Sorry folks, I left off 1 more item in the MommiesFirst box :(.  I tried to add a photo to my existing post but was unable to do so.  This greeting card is so absolutely cute I wouldn’t be doing the box justice if I didn’t add it now.  This is a very nice greeting card with card stock cutouts on the front.  It doesn’t have a brand name, like it was handmade.  Regardless of who made it it’s very cute.  I will save this for when I have another baby shower to attend.  (Retail $2?)

MommiesFirst May 2013 (9 month old girl)

Hi fellow subscription box fanatics, I received my 1st MommiesFirst baby box.   MommiesFirst is a monthly subscription for expectant mommies, new mommies and babies.  They offer different boxes depending on which of these categories best suits you.  They currently ship boxes up to 12 months old but I understand they will be expanding to 18 months.  I sure do hope so.  The box costs $30/month with free shipping.  They offer 1 month Free with a 6 month membership and 2 months free with a 12 month membership.  I do have to say that MommiesFirst has the best customer service of any box I have dealt with so far.  Lorena was always quick to respond and very helpful.  This box was a gift for my daughter and her 6 month old girl (we sized up to 9 months).  She provided a ton of guidance during this process while I bought the gift for my daughter.

Here is what the box looks like.  My apologies for the second photo – the box came meticulously wrapped in tissue paper with a cute sticker holding it together.  Unfortunately, in our excitement to see what was inside the tissue got destroyed.  Rest assured the presentation was fabulous!

The first thing we saw when we opened the box was an envelope with my daughters name handwritten on it.  Since this was a gift for my daughter, I thought this was a nice touch.  Then when we opened the letter, there was a handwritten note to my daughter “Your mom was so excited to send you a box.  Hope you enjoy it :)”.  This was such a lovely, personal touch that already sets MommiesFirst apart from the rest of the baby boxes out there.  I sure do hope that, as they grow, they continue with this personal touch – it really does make you feel special.

Most subscription boxes send a card to tell you all about the products they sent but MommiesFirst has, hands down, the best presentation for this information.  They send a cute card for each product held together by a diaper pin.  How cute is that?

Ok, so now on to the items we received.  I used Amazon for retail pricing, when available.  If the item isn’t available on Amazon, I used the pricing from the company’s website.  I did not include shipping on any of these items though I am wondering if I should.  If I can’t find any website with free shipping then it would be more realistic to include shipping.  But, I realize, some people find free shipping deals, when offered, so I am not including this.

1.  Peek-A-Boo Happy Baby board book (Retail $6.29) – This is a very cute book and I always love getting books in subscription boxes.  I enjoy reading to our granddaughter and honestly think you can’t have enough quality books.

2.  $5 gift card to bookcloseouts.com with no minimum purchase (Retail $5) – I will definitely check out this company and order some books!

3.  Cloud B Baby Rattle ($7.95) – This bunny is very cute and soft.  I confess, I love Cloud B products so, I was happy to see this in the box 🙂

4.  Munchkin Plug Covers (Retail $4.99) – While my granddaughter isn’t at the stage where we need these I am glad we received them.  I’ll put them away for when she is more mobile.

5.  Munchkin White Hot Safety Bath Ducky (Retail $4.99) – Not sure we really need this, I think we’re pretty good at judging the bath water temperature.  But I am curious to try it and see.  Either way, she can use it as a bath toy and my granddaughter loves ducks of any type.  She always get the biggest smile when she sees ducks.

6.  My true Nature 2-in-1 Shampoo and Body Wash 1 ounce (Retail $1.87) – I always like getting organic bath products for my granddaughter but since I get several baby boxes, which all put these in their boxes, I find I have more body wash, shampoo etc. than I will ever use LOL.  I will put these aside as I am sure I won’t get monthly baby boxes every month and forever so eventually I will use them all.

7.  My True Nature Clio’s “Beary” Soft Lotion 1 ounce (Retail $1.49) – I am actually liking that this is a small sample size because it’s perfect for the diaper bag and I can easily refill it with some of the other natural baby lotions I have received.

8.  Weleda Refining Toner 3.4 ounces (Retail $11.99) – I love that the mommy item was full size!  Unfortunately, I got this in another box I subscribe to and also see a dermatologist only using products from her.  That said, this is a very high quality item and I’m sure most mommies would love to receive it.  I will likely give this to one of my daughters if I don’t sell/trade it on a few of the Facebook groups I belong to for subscription box trading.

9.  Baby Shower Greeting Card (Retail Value $2?) – They sent this very cute, high quality greeting card that would be best for a baby shower.  I will save this for future use.  I am not able to add a picture after the fact so I will post in a new post.  It is very cute and worthy of a post for sure 🙂

All in all we really loved this box!  The total retail value is $45.57.  While this isn’t the biggest value, with respect to baby boxes, all the items will be used.  Each product was high quality and will definitely be used.  I’d rather get a lower total value box that we will use then a high value box filled with items that will just collect dust!  It is definitely not as “boutique” as some of the other boxes I have received, i.e. Munchkin items which I can get at any Walmart, Target etc.  That said, I am not disappointed in getting these Munchkin items.  They are items we will use and I have always had good luck with their products.  I get other boxes that send more hard to find products that I have never heard about so it’s good to get these too.  Saves me a trip to the store either way.

Stork Stack – May 2013 (9-month old girl)

Hi fellow subscription box “addicts”.  Stork Stack was my very 1st subscription box I ever received.  Even though I was personally disappointed with this box, I loved the idea of subscription boxes each month and ordered more, just different companies.  Stork Stack is a monthly subscription for babies and toddlers and costing $27.99/month.  Unfortunately they do not offer any discounts for signing up for longer subscriptions like a lot of the boxes out there.

I apologize for the poor picture of the overall box and for using stock photos for some of the items.  I got this box before I started this blog so didn’t think to take pictures.  I already gave a few of the items away so I need to use stock pictures.

All retail prices listed are from Amazon, when available.  If not available through Amazon I used pricing on the company’s website.

The items came wrapped in very cute tissue paper with red storks on it.  Again, apologies for not having the paper anymore to take a photo.  At the time I received this box I had no idea of the blog journey I would embark on.

Here is what was in the box:

1.  Rubbabu Education Ball (Retail $6.95) – While this is cute my opinion is that balls are a dime a dozen and I can get them almost anywhere.  When I signed up for subscription boxes, I was most excited at the opportunity to try items I hadn’t seen before.  Sadly, this ball falls short of that for me.

2.  Stephen Joseph Owl Bank (Retail $6.99) – This is also very cute but pretty impractical, sadly.  I would love a cute bank for my granddaughter and owls are part of her nursery theme but this bank is so tiny I doubt it will hold more than a few dollars.  I am keeping it and will put it in her room at our house. But, I’ll be looking for another bank to hold more.  Stephen Joseph has a ton of very cute items on their website.  I wish Stork Stack had selected another item.

3.  North American Bear Company Stuffed Rabbit (Retail $9.10) – This Rabbit is very cute and oh-so soft.  My problem with this item is, very much like the ball, it’s just another stuffed animal and little ones have so many of those already.  In terms of receiving unique items I haven’t seen before, this one also fails that criteria.

4.  Deep Steep Moisture Stick in Passion Fruite/Guava (Retail $5.99) – I actually received one of these in a box from another company and do like it.  I suffer from occasional dry skin and like that this slips easily into my purse.

5.  The last item I received was Dapple Dish Liquid, 3 ounces (Retail $1.24) – I like the idea of not using chemicals for my granddaughters bottles, nipples, binkies etc.  It’s also the perfect size for the diaper bag.

The total value of this box was $30.25.  Yes, that’s more than the $27.99/month cost but not, exactly, a great value in my eyes.

I was very disappointed with this box and canceled my subscription after receiving it.  I have read positive reviews on Stork Stack in the past and seen some great boxes.  Perhaps, I’ll give them another try later on down the road.  I have purchased several other baby boxes and want to see them before making that decision.  At this point, I am having a hard time paying for this box.  Perhaps, I can work with Stork Stack to give them another try.  Like I said, I heard such great reviews on Stork Stack so, I was surprised.  Maybe I’ll reach out to them and see if they offer a blogger package so I can give them another try and do another review.
